Five Germany Players in Isolation After Testing Positive for COVID-19

The German Football Association reported that five German players are in quarantine after one of them tested positive for COVID-19. This comes ahead of this week’s World Cup qualifier match against Liechtenstein.

They did not mention the player’s name but according to the DFB, the player had full vaccination and did not show any symptoms.

The other four players identified as close contacts tested negative but are also in isolation.

The national team director Oliver Bierhoff says the corona infections have been recently rising nationwide. To stay on the safe side, he said they are implementing the hygiene and behavioral rules especially during this last international match of the year.

According to Bierhoff, the news is heartbreaking to the coaching and the entire team, as this occurs prior to the final two games in the World Cup qualifiers. However, he insisted health comes first.

Germany became the first team to qualify for the 2020 World Cup in Qatar last month. They secured the top spot in the Group J team after beating North Macedonia 4-0 while away.

They are set to host Liechtenstein on Thursday before having their last qualifier on Sunday in Armenia.

Germany is leading with 21 points from the eight games and is ahead of Romania with eight points.
